After numerous requests, we are offering a lasercut acrylic from the Adafruit Superhero Power Plant (Arc Reactor) tutorial. If you don't have access to a laser, or would rather focus on the assembly/programming, this is just the plastic part.
This is an open-source design, you are compensating for the materials and labor.
This contains3 pieces of acrylic cut according to thepart on Thingiverse . Plusa piece of plain white paper also cut to the same size . (we felt the light diffused better when a piece of paper was inserted).
The tutorial can be found here:
This is for the default size, which is approx 2.5" (6cm) in diameter. It is somewhat smaller than the movie-style Arc Reactor, because it was designed for the original (approx. 2.5"/6cm)NeoPixel ring . By request we also offer a3.5" scaled version of this .
Here is a link to the tutorial.http://learn.adafruit.com/superhero-power-plant The detailed instructions can be found there.
If you want to make it, here are the other parts you will need:
Adafruit Gemma Medium-sized Neopixel ring Single Neopixel (orget 4 , they're small)
We adapted it for aCoin Cell Battery plusSewable holder (to avoid using a lithium battery charger). We used this holder because it's flat.Switch for battery
Miscellaneous Wire and Solder (we personally like the Adafruit-curatedwire kit , and here is someROHS solder )
Soldering Iron (if you are looking for one, this is a reasonable startersoldering station )
Coil-wrapping wire (we used either wire scavenged from discarded induction coils, orRadio Shack coil-wrapping wire , to get that coppery look)Mini-USB cable A piece of plain printer paper (preferably cut to fit, this product includes one)
Black dry-erase marker
Good luck and if you have any questions the internets can't answer, email us!
